Life before Medicine: During college I was involved in Taekwondo and orchestra outside of studies. Also, I spent serveral months traveling abroad during college to experience different cultures; which I enjoy. I've been involved in the Lutheran church and spent two summers as a counselor for Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp near Lakeside, MT. During medical school I was involved in Physicians for Human Rights.

Favorite Books: Radical Hospitality, Harry Potter series, C.S. Lewis' Narnia Series

Interests Outside of Medicine: Running, Hiking, Being outside, Spending time with Kudos (dog) and Mark (significant other), and working on the endless list of home improvement projects

Interests in Medicine: Preventative Healthcare, Pediatrics, International Medicine

Life before Medicine: EMT, ER tech, college, a few months in Africa teaching preschool

Favorite Books: "Banner in the Sky", all the James Herriot books, anything Jane Austen

Favorite Music: Everything from Counting Crows to Incubus, Anything good to run to, Storyhill...way more into country lately...probably a product of Billings radio

Favorite Movie: All the Harry Potters...can't help it.

Why you chose residency in Montana: After thinking Washington was the most beautiful state for 24 years I did a rotation in Lewistown, Montana and discovered I was wrong. Mountains, rivers, no traffic, and really wonderful people - easy choice.

Why you chose residency in Montana: To live in beautiful Montana and enjoy all its outdoor activities. Unopposed program, big volume, and really the people made my decision...Awesome people!

Life before Medicine: Ranger in Yellowstone National Park, Yellowstone snowcoach driver/guide in winter, Traveling for long periods of time between seasons in Yellowstone to places such as Nepal, Physics teaching assistant, Middle school teacher

Why you chose residency in Montana: Great training in full spectrum primary care in an unopposed residency, great colleagues and attendings, living close to the mountains. Graduates who seem happy and highly proficient.

Why you chose residency in Montana: The great people and the chance to come back to Montana and its mountains.

Gardening (i.e. trying not to kill everything in the garden), Pot-lucking, Time with Eileen and Steve, A secret addiction to spin classes, and I'm excited about my inauguration into winter sports

Favorite Music: Besides Shaggy...hmmm...David Grey, Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch

Favorite Movie: Rabbitproof Fence, and more recently Juno. We've recently gotten addicted to watching entire seasons in a single sitting of Six Feet Under, Lost, and Sex in the City.

Why you chose residency in Montana: Truthfully, it was a bit of a leap of faith. I just really appreciated and respected the attitude of the faculty and residents, the dedication to primary care and service to the underserved, and the balance between work and family. Oh yeah, and the mountains! After being here for a year, I can't imagine being anywhere else.
